Summer Vacation 2017
Youu guyssss!!! It's becoming the end of August!!! That is insane. I had to double check when I looked at the date today. Where the heck did this summer go? I feel like I've really spent most of my summer inside, behind a computer. I still find it really hard to give myself set work hours, and "time off". Being self employed it's almost like there is NO time for that. LOL. I'm happy that this past week Justin and I got to get away and really disconnect from the work and internet world. Service was cutting in and out, so we both put our phones on airplane mode and hit the road.
You guys probably remember my first trip to Cape Breton Island earlier this summer. I was so sad to be torn away so fast and begged Justin to plan a longer trip. This time we spent 5 days on the island and it was the absolute best. I can't believe that a place like this exists only a few hours away, driving distance!!! It's incredible. It's hard to believe it's even Canada!
It really was my dream vacation of beach hopping and exploring different waters. There is something about the ocean that is so special to me, and I really couldn't be happier anywhere else. So, me, the ocean, Justin & wine? I think I was in heaven.
We went golfing in Inverness at the Cabot Cliffs and it was absolutely breath taking. The views from this course were like I've never seen before. On the 16th hole you literally swing over a cliff onto the green. It was incredible. It also helped that Justin and I were both on our game. ;)
We stayed with Justin's grandparents for a couple nights before we hit the Cabot Trail. We thought it would be an experience to try and camp out for a couple nights..... An experience it was. It was SO COLD. It was close to 10 degrees while we were trying to fall asleep, lol. One night camping in Ingonish was enough for us and we got a motel the next night haha.
We went golfing for a second time on Saturday but got rained out on the 6th hole. Justin was mad, me, meh. We got to explore some more beaches as the sun came in and out. I found some sea glass and we came across the most beautiful view of a complete rainbow on the horizon. I love this island.
We stopped by Meat Cove to have dinner and check out the insane views there. As our luck continued, the power went out in Meat Cove as we sat down to order, and wouldn't be back on for hours. Lol. But these sights were 100% worth the stop.
We finished up the trip by driving through all the winding roads of the Cabot Trail and pulling over every time one of us saw something awesome. (Which was a lottttt) And then hiked the Skyline Trail. Justin made the mistake of taking the wrong fork in the road and we hiked the 2h hike and not the 45 min one. I complained a lot, but the views at the end were amazing haha. I really hate hiking.
The Lexus was SO AMAZING to have during this trip. (Thank you Lexus of Saint John!!!) We were both used to road tripping in our little cars. Having an SUV was a dream come true. Everything fit in the back, we didn't feel crammed and it is so smooth on the road. I really really love this car and all of it's features, weather it's the seat moving higher or lower, the eco friendly mode or that the mirrors light up when a car is in your blind spot. It really has all the angles covered for comfortable and safe driving. 10/10
I'm so happy to have gotten to know Cape Breton a little better, and even happier that Justin was born there and still has so much family there so I get to return often. Eeeeeeeee. If you are from New Brunswick and have never been, put it on your list right now!!!!
