Home series: Kitchen Update

Hi guys! Home renos are in full swing around here and we just wanted to pop in and give you a kitchen update! A huge bulk of the kitchen is done, but it is still very unfinished. It's been a long process, but it's starting to come along, ...the end is near!!!!!!!

We couldn’t wait to knock down the walls separating the kitchen and the dining room to really open up the space and combine both rooms. The kitchen was so teeny tiny before and we couldn't wait to expand it over two rooms and create a bight open space you want to hang out in all the time.

We laid the same flooring in the kitchen as we did throughout the main spaces and love how it creates such an even flow when you're going from room to room. The flooring we used is a luxury vinyl and Justine at the Grand Bay Home Hardware can give you all the details about it! I'll be sure to get the actual info from her on brand etc for the kitchen reveal post that will be up once the kitchen is finished.

Our cabinets are the high gloss white fronts from Ikea and we could not be happier with that experience. We went to Halifax to meet with the Ikea kitchen team and really plan out our details and our entire cabinet order was delivered THREE DAYS LATER. It was nuts. Justin had a really organized and strategic plan of attack for putting the cabinets together and it honestly wasn't as hard or overwhelming as you'd think.

We hung the cabinets in the order that they went up on the wall, so each one we built, we'd hang it up right away. The high gloss white fronts are so dreamyyyyyy. I want them everywhere, and we just ordered more for our bathroom vanity. (Can’t wait to show you that too!!) We chose thin black hardware and I'll make sure to link those in the kitchen reveal post too.

I think my favourite detail of the kitchen is our matte black apron sink by Blanco! It is so stunning and huge. We went with the Blanco Silgranit in the 33 inch. It is so easy to clean and it makes such a statement. I feel like it's a piece of art. Lol. I cannot WAIT to see it all come together once the counters are installed. Right now the plywood is not doing it for us.

We will be installing new windows over the sink and left corner to let in more sunlight. This side of the house gets ALL of the sun throughout the day, and I can't wait until that's even more open to let in more light and to see the view of the backyard & fields behind the house.

We are still working on countertops and it has been harder than we thought to find the material we want for a price that isn’t insane with good service. Lol. It has been a journey to say the least, but we are back on the right track and I think we have found our perfect match with a local company. We can’t wait to show you what will be soon installed!!!! I AM SO EXCITED.

We cannot wait to see this all fall together soon with the final details. It’s so hard to believe that the kitchen was what is was like in the first couple of images. I remember the first time we walked through the house at our first viewing, we talked about ripping the walls down and opening it up, and we had already had our cabinets picked out. Hahaha. To see the original vision slowly come together has been so exciting and so satisfying. The countertops are going to be a dream come true from living without any since November. LOL

If you guys have any questions that I didn’t cover here, be sure to ask away and I will do my best to cover everything in the kitchen reveal post in the near future!

Thanks for following along!
