Tips for travelling with a dog

With the weather warming up and summer travel plans approaching, I thought I’d share with you guys some tips and tricks to traveling and road trippinh with your pup - especially a large one, lol. As most of you already know, I have a Bernedoodle named Mason. (@masonthebernedoodle) LOL. We LOVE to bring him along with us when we travel, but traveling with a dog is sometimes comes with it’s challenges.

DOG FRIENDLY HOTELS
One thing that is a MUST for us when travelling with Mason is finding a dog-friendly hotel. Some of the hotels that we regularly go to when travelling through the maritimes are Oceanstone Seaside resort in Nova Scotia, the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Fredericton, and a lot, if not all, the Delta Hotels & Hilton Hotels are also pet friendly!! Also, the Algonquin Hotel in Saint Andrews!! We love staying there with Mason.

RESTAURANTS & PATIOS
Another thing we look for is pet friendly restaurants & patios. We try to avoid leaving him in the hotel room as much as we can. Some good local spots for this, if you are travelling to Saint John are Picaroons, the patio of Cask & Kettle, the Gahan House and (I think?!) the Boardwalk. We also loved taking him to the Wharf Restaurant last summer in Saint Andrews. I would also love to add that all dogs are welcome at all Provincial and National Parks here in New Brunswick!

LEASH & HARNESS COMBOS
Since Mason is such a large dog, and chases the most random things, especially kids… lol, a good leash and harness are essential!! We really enjoy using the Gentle Leader by Beaphar. It makes handling Mason SO much easier when he’s excited or sees a small child. Lol. I strongly recommend this harness for large dogs, it’s honestly life changing! Another one we like when we know we won’t be around a ton of people, or somewhere busy is the Jelly line by Hound Collection. We use this one when we know we will be at the beach or in a more low key environment. (It’s also waterproof) It doesn’t have AS much control, but honestly if you have a normal sized dog, it will be perfect for you. Lol.

CAR COVERAGE
Another product we use when travelling to the beach (or anywheres where Mason might get wet or dirty lol), is a dog seat cover! This works really well for saving your car seats from getting wet and dirty, or smelling like a wet dog lol. I think everyone with a dog could benefit from this one, even if you aren’t travelling. You can get one just like ours here!

POOP BAGS
Whether we’re going on a longer trip or just a short little day trip, we always need poop bags!! Lol. These biodegradable and compostable dog poop bags are perfect for any traveling! They are the perfect size for traveling, and they’re better for the planet!!

I hope you guys found these tips & products useful! I know they help us out with Mason a LOT. Let me know if you try any of them out or you have any other tips to add!

Happy Travels!
