Artist: Allie Beckwith | Collection: Hometown Hockey | Medium: Oil on Royale Paper Products 2025

Inspired by the nostalgic, everyday familiarity of growing up in the cold, winter months in Canada, and drawing from my own life long experience of playing hockey. Considering childhood memories with family and friends, and the view from the stands as we root for the home team. Hometown Hockey is a seven painting collection of small oil works created on Royale paper products.

Combined with storytelling, memories and snapshots, the series reflects a shared ritual that exists across all ages: from childhood, learning to skate, to grandparents cheering on their beloved grand daughter who just scored the overtime winner. These intimate scenes capture the familiar, communal moments, on and off the ice.

Working on Royale products for this curation introduced an entirely new creative process for me. It required both curiosity and problem solving, and as an artist, this is the kind of thing that never gets old. It required a delicate, intentional approach that I wasn’t even sure was possible. After a lot of trial and error, and slowly becoming comfortable and intuitive with how the medium interacted with the surfaces, it became a really fun challenge to bring the final vision into creation.

Rooted in personal experience and family influence, this collection celebrates community, warmth, team spirit, and the enduring charm of New Brunswick hometown hockey.
