Home Series: New House, Before Photos

Hi guys! So if you watched Episode 2 of our home search/home reno series, you know most of the story on what’s been happening! It’s been an absolutely crazy couple of weeks and I’ll attach the video here so you can catch up!

Long story short we found our perfect house to flip! Though we don’t move in until the end of the week, we decided to stop in and take some “before” photos before all of our belongings fill the rooms, and the actual renovation process begins! I just want to unload these photos so we can all look at them in one place LOL.

I also want to go into a bit more depth on why we want to flip a house and not build our forever home. When I moved in with Justin, I moved in to “his” space. It was so masculine and his color choices were so so questionable. Over the time that we lived there together, we painted all but 2 walls, we knocked down walls, we changed almost every room, we renovated the entire laundry room, patio and made little changes everywhere. We both loved the process and loved experimenting with different finishes, details and colors. Justin is so handy and can do just about anything I request. (It’s amazing). We both love the process and love design and we are both not ready to commit to the design of our dream build, yet. So a flip was the perfect idea for us to practice different design and ideas that we have that may or may not work for us in a long term home.

When we were searching for the perfect flip, we were searching for a house that didn’t need a ton of “the boring work”. Boring work meaning things like all new windows, fixes to the foundation & structure, a lot of electrical work, houses with extensions, etc. We also weren’t looking for houses that people have recently updated. We knew we wanted to rip up basically everything cosmetic, and update it all ourselves. We saw a lot of houses that had semi new updates, looked OK but weren’t done very high end. So it seemed kind of a shame to rip them out, but we knew we wouldn’t keep them.

This house was perfect. It had great bones and a really great layout already. We will be doing a bit of boring things like replacing siding, replacing a few windows, and a couple other smaller things, but over all it was a completely blank slate. The kitchen and bathrooms were begging to be updated and the floors are ready to be laid! Wahoo! We plan on finishing the basement and adding a bathroom down there as well (I never thought seeing plumbing already set up would excite me this much)

We plan on ditching the bedroom on the main level, and opening up the living room a little but more, maybe adding an open mud room. But then adding a bedroom to make up for it in the basement. Right now the main level bathroom and laundry room are one, so we also may be using that space to add a separate laundry room.

We will be updating you every step of the way, on Instagram, Instagram stories, mini episodes on YouTube to really give you a feel for what we are doing, as well as it all summarized with links and photos here on the blog! We are super excited to get started, and share a lot of great information, experience, and the amazing brands we will be working with!

Thanks for being a part of this new project!
Below are the rest of the photos!
