I hope everyone had a fantastic summer!! Mine was a little more relaxed than the past few have been, but none the less, traveled to incredible places, met amazing new clients and spent time with the ones I love. What more do you want.
So, I've been trying to make a blog post for almost a month now and I just couldn't figure out how to get what I wanted to get across. So I just started writing. Does anyone else get a weird feeling when they're entering "back to school" mode? Even if you're not returning to school, there's a sudden rush in the air everywhere and it's impossible to escape. It's like September 1st symbolizes the beginning for all things new. New classes, cities, friends, problems... September has always been a tough one for me, for the past few years most of my bigger issues fell into September.
Here's my theory:
September is a transition period.
Transition periods
Transition periods are some of the toughest times you'll beer go through. I can compare them to when you're riding your bike when you're little and you're trying to catch up with your friends. So you gear up from 2nd gear to 5th. Once you turn that little dial, you need to push and ride it out until your bike stops making unhealthy noises and it's caught up. < That could be a bad example but that's how I picture it.
It's the painful time that you need to get through to get where you're going. Most often in between the ending of something (summer break) and entering (the unknown) (school) Sometimes the transition period lasts longer than expected and it's overwhelming. Like the next big thing just isn't coming. And sometimes there's no break at all, bang bang, and you didn't even have time to think or worry about it. I prefer the bang bang series. I know that September isn't the only time for this, it happens all the time really, sometimes more abrupt than others.
So, as I'm starting to get over mine, my advise (and what I keep telling myself this whole month) is to take a step back and try to see the bigger picture.
Steve Jobs says it best,
“You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something – your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. Because believing that the dots will connect down the road will give you the confidence to follow your heart even when it leads you off the well worn path; and that will make all the difference.”
So chin up and here's to new year, new city new school, new clients & new friends.
Happy back to school to you xx
