Happy Tuesday!! Today felt like Monday for me, I had a super amazing getaway to Nova Scotia this past weekend that lasted into Monday evening! I'm excited to share all the details from the weekend, it was truly awesome. A perfect mix of work and play!
I'm really excited to share with you a couple secrets, annoying things, and a bit of the process of being a blondeeeee! If you're a blonde girl, you know it's not easy. It's a never ending process of getting the perfect color, while keeping your length as well as your hair healthy. My hair's been blonde since my early teens and I have a few holy grail products that help me keep it fresh and toned & long.
My first secret weapon is hair extensions. I've been wearing them also since my early teens. I got my first pair off of Kijiji when I was like fourteen. Lol. I have tried a million different kinds, buying them online and at Sally's Beauty Supply. I always wore clip in extensions. They worked well for me, but you can't sleep with them, swim with them and they're sometimes a little bulky on your head. I heard nothing but great things about tape in extensions and thought about it for a while and finally decided to go for it. I've had them in for a couple weeks now and wanted to give them a fair shot before writing a review. I think there is definitely pros and cons to both clip in and tape in extensions. But I'm pretty used to most of the maintenance that comes with having them. My latest clip in extensions were by
, they stayed so healthy, thick and long for almost a year now. I knew I wanted to try their tape ins as well.
Before applying the tape ins, my little Miss hair stylist, Madison Clark used Blonde Me lightener in 20 in the back of the head and 30 in the front, on the roots and scalp. She let it process until it was the desired colour and then rinsed and toned with Redken shades EQ, Platinum ice & Chrome.
For the tape in process we used Exquisite Hair Extensions, 18" in Blonde Bombshell. Madison washed the extensions with blue shampoo to cool them down a little bit before she put them in. We made the mistake of getting the tape wet before we put them in, and a couple slipped down a little bit a few days later. She removed the ones that had slipped with Babe oil tape in remover, cleaned them off and re-taped them with Babe tape. (So if you're going to tone the tape ins or wash them at all before putting them, try to steer clear of the tape during the process.) She put the extensions in using the brick lay effect around the head, making sure to keep them away from the edges so when the hair is up, none are visible.
Overall, I really like them so far! It's nice being able to sleep with them in and not having little metal pieces all through your head. Madison suggested I sleep with my hair in a loose braid every night, so I've been doing that. I am pretty low maintenance when it comes to doing my hair every day. I let it air dry every time I wash it, and only touch heated tools on the weekend. I've always liked my hair a little beachy and textured. Sleeping with a braid is perfect for my low maintenance week days. I wake up with soft waves and just brush them out and go. Wearing my hair up was something I was little worried about with tape ins, but honestly, in this way they are the same as clip ins where you just have to move a couple pieces around a little bit sometimes so they're not showing. (This is also something you can train your boyfriend into doing lol)
One of the products I cannot live without is my blue shampoo. I've tried a few and Shimmer Lights takes the cake for me. It's so pigmented and keeps your hair so soft. I use both their shampoo and their conditioner. I've also been taking Biotine for a little over a month. It's a vitamin that is keeps your hair and nails strong. It's honestly hard to tell if it's doing anything, but I've had no weird side effects, so I'm still religiously taking it.
